I wish to express my gratitude for help received through the teachings of Christian Science. This Science was made known to me through a near relative and stanch friend during the period of the war. I was situated in a forest area for military purposes, and well remember my friend reading from "Miscellaneous Writings" by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, "The Fruit of the Spirit." The article entitled "An Allegory," made an impression on me, and from that day I have interested myself in the teachings of Christian Science, which have been a source of help and great comfort during seemingly difficult times.
I had been a sufferer from headaches of the extreme kind since my early youth. These disappeared as I studied Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Many other benefits have been received in my home, but the greatest of all come six years ago when, during a breakdown in health followed by acute neurasthenia, the efficacy of Christian Science practice was again proved. For business reasons, during the early part of the illness I was attended by doctors, and I want to express my appreciation of their kindness in endeavoring to bring me out of the abyss into which I had seemingly fallen. Unlike the Psalmist, I could not find "a table in the wilderness," until, during a serious relapse, I sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner, who by loving thoughts and a firm understanding of man's relationship to his Maker, quieted all fear, and relief from the distressed mental condition followed.
The malady included long periods of insomnia and violent sickness, causing physical weakness, but through the aid of Science treatment I gained quietness, mental rest, and a different outlook. Gradually discordant conditions were dispelled and harmony reigned. The time for the complete healing to be accomplished appeared slow, and I often grew weary, but health was ultimatley restored. I was given much encouragement by a testimony of one who had been through the same kind of experience.
