One Record

Christian Science endorses the one true record of creation in the first chapter of Genesis, and the Christian Scientist is in agreement with no other record. On page 505 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes, "Immortal Mind makes its own record, but mortal mind, sleep, dreams, sin, disease, and death have no record in the first chapter of Genesis."

What is Mind's own record? Spiritual perfection, eternality, love. And man is the conscious expression of Mind. Holding to this one record the Christian Scientist discovers his true spiritual identity and learns to express it with freedom and joy.

Jesus' understanding of His spiritual identity overruled doubt, fear, resentment, and brought him triumphantly out of temptation, persecution, prosecution. When the Pharisees said to him, "Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true," their personal sense misinterpreted his sublime answer, "Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go." Jesus was certain that as the Son of God his true selfhood was beyond the reach of mortal mind. His record of himself was true because it was based on God as the sole creator of man.
