I am greateful to our Father-Mother God for Christian Science, which has done so much for me. My first healing was of bronchial asthma of eight years' standing. It distressed me to go to church because the coughing would disturb others, but Christian Science friends prevailed on me to attend, and healing gradually took place.
My biggest problem was smoking. Material remedies and will power were tried without success. Christian Science treatment was obtained from patient practitioners in different towns, but the habit did not yield. The time arrived when I had a great desire for church membership. Loving members of the board encouraged me to go forward. Time passed, and the probationary period was drawing to a close, but the demonstration was not made. The thought that a cigarette could enslave me to such an extent as to prevent membership, made me physically ill, an unusual thing for me, as I enjoyed good health. Being desperate, I turned to the ninety-first Psalm, and held to the promises contained in verses 14 and 15 for several hours; then a wonderful sense of peace, that peace "which passeth all understanding," stole over me. The demonstration was made, and I have not smoked since.
A great sense of heaviness and stiffness, and swelling of the joints, causing difficulty in movement, has given way to harmonious action. This condition did not yield readily, but required a great deal of earnest study and help. I heard two testimonies of the overcoming of corns given by different members, one saying he worked to eliminate hard thoughts and to be more loving; the other, that she felt she needed to do more diligent study of the Scriptures and Mrs. Eddy's works. These caused me to try to do likewise; and while reading much more, and more earnestly, I too was healed of corns, without any specific work being done about them.
