Working for the Little Ones

Jesus said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not." How heartening and joyous it is to behold little children learning to know God through the Christian Science Sunday School!

Children will and do use their own knowledge of Christian Science, when they are able to do so. But until they have that ability they need all the loving help and tender consideration that adults can give them to prepare them for the new people, new places, and new experiences which constantly confront them. How vital it is, therefore, that the grown-ups—parents, Sunday school teachers, in fact, all who have to do with children—maintain their steadfast, prayerful work for the little ones, that they may be protected and guided!

On page ix of the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy, who dearly loved all children, writes: "A child drinks in the outward world through the eyes and rejoices in the draught. He is as sure of the world's existence as he is of his own; yet he cannot describe the world." A child drinks in Truth as eagerly as the young budding plant drinks in the warm rain and the sunshine. If he knows God is with him always, he will go anywhere unafraid.
