Many years ago I was healed of rheumatism by reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It was not until a few years later that I realized I had been healed. Then, when all that I held dear was suddenly swept away, I turned to Christian Science for solace and comfort.

As I look back on those vanished years I can understand what Mrs. Eddy says in her Message to The Mother Church for 1902 (p. 19): "Are earth's pleasures, its ties and its treasures, taken away from you? It is divine Love that doeth it, and sayeth, 'Ye have need of all these things.' A danger besets thy path?—a spiritual behest, in reversion. awaits you." This seeming debacle in my experience proved to be the greatest blessing of my life, for I was forced to look to God for my every need—and all my needs were met then, and have been ever since. I have learned through suffering how to avoid suffering. I have learned the true source of supply; latent capacities have been developed, and more harmony exists in my relationships with others.

I am deeply grateful to the Master and to our Leader, who have shown us the way to Life and happiness. We can be sure, as Science and Health says (p. 574), that "the very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares."
