I feel I should like to express my sincere gratitude for Christian Science. Relatives tried to arouse my interest in the subject at a time when I really needed help, but I was an enthusiastic member of an orthodox church, and at that time seemed quite content to remain where I was. One Sunday a sermon was preached and doctrines were discussed with which I felt I could never agree. I thought very earnestly about the points in question and humbly asked God for guidance. That was the last time I attended the church, and for some months I did not visit any place of worship.

While riding in a bus, I noticed a Church of Christ, Scientist, and had a great desire to visit it, so I attended a Sunday service. I was interested, and during the next week borrowed the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, from the Reading Room. When I returned it a fortnight later I had not finished reading it, so I purchased a copy of my own, and it was then that I was told about the study of the Lesson-Sermon. I bought a Christian Science Quarterly, found a Bible which had not been used for years, and began reading. At first I appeared to understand very little, but I realize now that as I read my thought was changing.

After I had been reading for a very short time, I had an instantaneous healing of what my colleagues said was an attack of influenza. These words especially arrested my attention: "It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good" (Science and Health, p. 494). I went on with my work during the evening, and several hours later a friend, who had been with me all day, remarked that I was entirely well; until that moment I had not realized this. For this experience I have since been especially grateful, as it proved to me that Truth heals; and it made me want to know more about God and the teachings of Christian Science.
