During the World War I served in a Central European...

During the World War I served in a Central European army, and being a pacifist at heart, I was in a great measure depressed through witnessing the cruelty, sorrow, and suffering which the war brought with it. My former religion did not give me a solution or any consolation. Meanwhile I was suffering from extreme nervousness, melancholia, acute indigestion, liver complaint, and mental confusion. I lost my faith in good and in the future, but somehow I felt there must be a God who helps mankind. I tried all kinds of medicine, tonics, and stimulants, and went to many physicians, but my condition did not change.

Fifteen years ago I went to the United States, and there and later in Europe I suffered from the above-mentioned ailments for seven years, so that I became desperate. Eight years ago, in New York, a friend gave me a book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the reading of which, he said, would help me. I did not then know anything of Christian Science, but I read the book and was healed, though I do not remember when, as the healing came so gently. All suffering disappeared. Later on I really studied Christian Science, and gradually my joy and happiness increased.

The next year I visited my native country, Hungary, and I found my mother very ill, given up as hopeless by the doctors. I translated parts of the Christian Science textbook for her, and she was healed in about five weeks. I applied the glorious truth in several cases in Hungary "with signs following." While in Berlin, Germany, I was stricken with influenza. I asked for help in Christian Science and was healed by one absent treatment.
