Out of deep gratitude for the divine influence of Christian Science...
Out of deep gratitude for the divine influence of Christian Science upon my life and its many instant, complete victories over distressing predicaments therein, I avail myself of the great joy and privilege of testifying to the simple yet mighty power of this infallible Science.
A few years ago, on leaving a friend's house, I took a short cut across the lawn and jumped off a wall about four feet high. One of my feet struck a large stone, turning the ankle completely under. The snap of the ankle was distinctly audible, and the foot became limp and numb. I shall never forget the instantaneous spiritual illumination which came at that moment. I was instantly conscious of a radiant, harmonious presence which I knew to be divine, and I felt as a little child, quite separate from all sense of material being and safe in divine Love's all-governing presence. I exclaimed in joyous gratitude, "Thank you, God," This thanks was for the immediate realization of my real spiritual selfhood, perfect and unharmed "in the secret place of the most High." I tried to take a step, but the foot seemed lifeless. An unseen presence seemed to encourage me to try again, assuring me I could do it. I tried to take a step and another, and soon was walking as well as ever. I walked five miles to my destination and never felt any more discomfort from the incident.
What would have happened without my ability to realize the presence of God through Christian Science, I do not know; but I am certain that with no alternative but to accept and submit to the seeming reality of an accident I should have had to be carried home to suffer a long period of painful ankle treatment, and possibly bone setting for the physical law of breakage. On page 424 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read, "Accidents are unknown to God." Thus it is divinely natural that as one attains consciousness of his real identity, at one with the all-harmonious divine Mind, all sense of what claims to have been an accident is displaced by the spiritual sense of well-being. Then the spiritual power of the unhindered action of Christian Science upon human consciousness is demonstrated.
