Nineteen years ago I was healed of a disease after three physicians, two of them specialists, had pronounced me incurable from a medical standpoint. When this disease first came upon me I was forced to stop school and was confined to my bed most of the time. After four months elapsed I steadily grew worse and partial paralysis began to develop. My mother became very much alarmed over my condition, and consulted with the two specialists. We were advised to move to another town where I would come into contact with new people, have new experiences, and have things to take my thoughts away from self.
However, before this move was made the seed of truth had been planted. A playmate who lived next door to me was having treatment in Christian Science for a chronic disease, as doctors could do no more for her. She told me how much she was being helped and assured me that I could be healed also. This did not seem to make any impression on me at the time, but this truth was to bear fruit a few months later. After the proposed move had been made my health seemed to improve, but within three months the disease returned and was fast developing into complete paralysis. Even though I was only a child, my heart cried out to God for help and I asked for Christian Science.
My mother thought herself much opposed to this religion, but was willing to try anything that might help me. She did not know just how to go about getting help in Christian Science, so consulted one whom she knew to be a student, and he lovingly told her about practitioners. We called on one and treatment was begun. At the end of three weeks I was able to walk, comb my hair, and feed myself. I regained the use of my tongue immediately, and at the end of a month I returned to school and graduated with the class at the end of the term.
