Learning to Listen

[Written Especially for Children]

A little boy sat on the floor playing with his toy train. His mother called, "Bobby, lunch is nearly ready;" but he did not hear her. He was listening only to the sound of his little train, and its noise shut out her voice.

Soon Bobby became hungry, and then he began to listen for his mother's voice calling him to lunch. When she called again, he heard her, even though his train was still running.

Just as soon as he began to listen for his mother's voice, he heard it above every other sound.
