Christian Science came into our home many years ago and found me thoroughly dissatisfied with everything, myself in particular. I was giving all my spare time to helping those unhappily situated, and the efforts to combat the sin and suffering seemed hopeless; then to be told that God created those conditions, or at least permitted them, left me without God. I struggled on for two more years trying to find in different churches and denominations the religion Jesus taught and lived. One memorable Sunday the preacher took for his text, "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him." Knowing this to be my need, I listened most intently, hoping to hear how to worship God "in spirit." I was disappointed, and there and then decided to accompany my mother to the Christian Science services. Christian Science has given me what I sought, answered all my questioning, and removed the seeming ambiguities and contradictions from the Bible. It has taught me that God is, and has lifted the life of Jesus out of the realm of a fairy tale to an example that can be followed today.

My love and gratitude to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for her revelation of God cannot be expressed in words. Only a life consecrated to God in accordance with her teaching and example is a fitting expression. The way has seemed uphill, with many trials, but these have been "proofs of God's care," as Christian Science teaches they are (Science and Health, p. 66). Illnesses have been healed and the effects of accidents have been nullified, sometimes instantaneously. About ten years ago I had an attack of gastritis. I had had a similar one before Christian Science had come to me, and I was in the doctor's care for two months and subject to strict diet. Having gained some understanding of Christian Science, I realized that man's being is perfect, and that "nothing inharmonious can enter being, for Life is God" (ibid., p. 228), also that man is subject to God's law alone. I am grateful to say that I was healed within a week.

I used to be subject to anemia, but this condition never returned after I began the study of Christian Science. Lumbago, influenza, severe colds, and various forms of nerve trouble have been met by Christian Science. At one time I fell downstairs, striking a chest at the bottom and dislocating my shoulder. I remained where I fell and immediately applied what I knew of Christian Science, repeating "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468), and realizing its truth. The pain eased, my shoulder snapped back, and I arose healed. At another time, when I was traveling by train and had helped a fellow passenger out with her luggage, my finger was trapped in the door. When the door was opened and my finger was released it was flat and discolored. I felt no pain until I knew my finger was trapped, which was clear evidence that pain was not in matter, and I refused to accept the suggestion of pain, knowing that there is but one cause, God, and one effect, man in His image and likeness, spiritual and perfect. In about half an hour my finger was normal and gave me no further trouble.
