Be Still and Know

Be still and know! Ah, Lord, I will be still
When anxious trouble seeks to bring me care,
To bind me fast and bend me to its will,
And capture me unguarded, unaware.

Dear Lord, I will be steadfast, faithful, sure,
Seeking and striving for the quiet peace
That knows a haven where no ills endure,
And where the struggling heart finds sweet release.

Oh, joyous now and free, my heart shall sing
A knowing song of deep conviction born:
Guided as homing bird, will soar and wing
Into the promise of Thy wondrous morn.

Yea, knowing Thee, naught else is there to do
But trust and hope. Earth's passionate violence
Can touch me not, and I shall say: I knew;
And I was still; and this was my defense.
