In a recent issue of the Gleaner a writer raises a question with regard to several points in Christian Science. May I have space for a reply?

Christian Science does teach that God is not a physical personality. It is impossible to conceive of omnipresent Deity, who fills all space, as being confined to a physical form. But it is possible to conceive of divine intelligence or Mind being omnipresent, everywhere available and always accessible. Therefore, Christian Scientists accept Jesus' statement that "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."

One dictionary gives this definition of "personality": "Conscious existence as an intelligent and voluntary being." In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 116) Mrs. Eddy writes: "As the words person and personal are commonly and ignorantly employed, they often lead, when applied to Deity, to confused and erroneous conceptions of divinity and its distinction from humanity. If the term personality, as applied to God, means infinite personality, then God is infinite Person,—in the sense of infinite personality, but not in the lower sense. An infinite Mind in a finite form is an absolute impossibility."
