"The only I, or Us"

[Written Especially for Young People]

A young woman who had been accustomed to leading a very busy life, during which period she had come in contact with varied and interesting types of people, found herself faced with a quiet period. At first, fussing and fuming over this enforced quietude, she came to the conclusion through prayerful thinking that what she needed was to get better acquainted with her true selfhood and to gain a better sense of true peace. With the realization of a greater sense of peace came a desire for a greater sense of gratitude.

As prayer and answer are simultaneous, she found her response through careful perusal of the columns of The Christian Science Monitor. Here she read day by day of the wonderful progress being made in the world of invention, arts, letters, the theater, and other fields of endeavor. And here she found reason to be grateful for the fact that even if she herself was not expressing as much activity as she felt she should, she could be grateful for the advancing steps which were being taken by others and for the great good which was being manifested in many fields of work.

The definition of "Mind" on page 591 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy reads in part, "The one God; not that which is in man, but the divine Principle, or God, of whom man is the full and perfect expression." Since man is the full and perfect expression of Mind, he is continuously expressing the fullness and perfection of God. Spiritual attraction being a quality of God, Mind, it is not dependent upon person, place, condition, or circumstance. Whether we are on the busy highways of commerce, out in the social world, in schools or colleges, or in the quiet of a room, God, divine Mind, is continually imparting whatever we need for our progress, growth, happiness, and companionship, and as we reflect the qualities of Mind they are made manifest in our experience.
