It is with sincere gratitude and a humble acknowledgement of the truth that I desire to submit the following testimony in regard to a young girl, fifteen years of age, who experienced a healing of burns sustained in a gas explosion, which completely demolished her home. The mother was the only other member of the family at home at the time. Mother and daughter were taken to the hospital ten miles away. The girl had resided in our home the previous two years during the summer months, helping to care for our little son. As soon as possible after the accident a Christian Science practitioner was asked to help, and he immediately started treatment. The physician stated the following day that although her entire body was burned beyond recognition, the mother did not suffering and her passing was just as if she had gone if sleep. The first report in regard to the girl was that she could not see; that her burns were first, second, and third degree burns; that the kidneys were not functioning, due to so large a portion of her body being burned; that it was very likely she had swallowed flames, and she was considered to be in a serious condition; and that skin grafting would be necessary, if she lived.
Only our Father-Mother God knows how grateful I am to bear witness to what took place. As soon as she heard our footsteps in the room her voice came soft and clear, "Oh, I knew you would come; now I can see," and her eyes were opened. The picture of the material sense was frightful to behold, but Christian Science enabled my wife and me to look away to Truth and Love; and then our fear vanished. Although her lips were burned until they were charred she was able to repeat "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468) to my wife without hesitation. This girl and her sisters and brothers had attended a Christian Science Sunday School. She has always expressed much love and has a childlike faith which all of us need. She had witnessed the beautiful healing of our little son, and she knew that "with God all things are possible."
The practitioner was informed of the statements made by the attending physician. The following day there was a change for the better. The kidneys were functioning, and no more was said to us in regard to the flames. Each day showed remarkable improvement; and at the end of one week the girl's face was entirely healed without a scar. In a few days she was removed to a private room in a modern hospital, with special day and night nurses. I desire to express my gratitude for their splendid co-operation.
