All my life I had suffered with bronchitis, and as I grew...
All my life I had suffered with bronchitis, and as I grew older it became chronic. If I lay down at night I was not able to breathe, but had to be propped up with pillows. After I was married my husband was sent out of London to a place which was considered low lying and unhealthful. The family doctor gave a certificate to the Government Board to the effect that I could not live there, and they allowed us to live a short way out, where it was considered bracing and healthful. After living in this place for some time I became worse. Then a friend told me of Christian Science, which from the first I felt was the truth.
One morning I was particularly ill and could scarcely get around. My one thought was, I must get to a Christian Science practitioner. This necessitated a twenty minutes' walk. I do not know how I got there. When I reached the house I recognized a practitioner whom I knew slightly going in before me. When she saw me, she asked if I needed help. As the practitioner I was going to see was out, I said, "Yes." The thought came to me, If she does not ask me to sit down I shall faint. She made one declaration of the truth as taught in Christian Science, and I was instantly healed. I breathed freely, the cough stopped, and all sense of congestion vanished. I ran home, and when my husband came in he asked me what had taken place, and with a heart full of gratitude I told him that I had been instantly healed by Christian Science. That was twenty-five years ago. The healing was permanent. I did not know then, as I do now, how purely mental healing is. One minute I felt that life was not worth living, and the next minute I was well and happy. Nothing had been done to my body. I was standing in the same place, having scarcely moved, but through the love and clear thought of the practitioner all fear left me and my thought was entirely changed.
I am so deeply grateful to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for giving us Christian Science and for the privilege of working for the movement.
