It is with a deep sense of gratitude to God, to our dear...
It is with a deep sense of gratitude to God, to our dear Master, Christ Jesus, and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, that I testify to the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science, which has met all my needs, physical and mental, for the last seventeen years.
When I first heard of Christian Science I was working in a materially beautiful but mentally unbearable environment. My heart yearned for some expression of loving-kindness, sincerity, and honesty, and as the weeks and months dragged on I felt, in my ignorance, that I hated not only those around me, but also the God who had failed to answer my prayers for help, and who, as I thought, saw and permitted so much wrongdoing to continue. As a result of being overcome by such feelings of hatred, I had to seek medical aid for several physical disorders, and ultimately found myself on the verge of a serious nervous breakdown.
Just when I was about distracted by the fear of what might happen to me, I was told of Christian Science, and almost immediately went to see a practitioner. Patiently and lovingly she listened to my outpouring of my struggles and mental difficulties, and then gently explained to me that the God whom Christian Scientists love and learn to serve is a God of love, an ever-present help in times of trouble. My attention was then drawn to that wonderful verse in Habakkuk, which says of God, "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity;" and it was pointed out to me that if I really desired to see God's kingdom established upon earth, it was my duty to begin, just where I was, to aid in the destruction of sin and suffering by striving to see them as powerless and unreal, because God neither saw nor permitted them.
