Principle is Love

In the midst of fear, illness, or discouragement have we not many times been reassured and comforted with the realization that God is Love? Indeed, an understanding of this great truth, even in a small degree, has lifted the cloud of despair and hopelessness from the depressed; it has brought peace and tranquillity to the troubled; it has dispelled error and healed the sick. Through the study of Christian Science, multitudes have been able to understand more fully the true nature of God as infinite Love, and to know Him also as divine Principle.

We know that the only real law which governs us is the law of God, divine, undeviating Principle. That which conforms to divine law reflects infinite Principle, God. This law cannot be broken or annulled, because it is complete, perfect, and eternal.

Does it seem difficult to understand God as Principle? Does God seem closer to us as divine, ever-present Love than as omnipotent, supreme Principle? Mary Baker Eddy says in "No and Yes" (p. 20): "When the term divine Principle is used to signify Deity it may seem distant or cold, until better apprehended. This Principle is Mind, substance, Life, Truth, Love. When understood, Principle is found to be the only term that fully conveys the ideas of God,—one Mind, a perfect man, and divine Science."
