When naming various groups of people who do not use material means for healing, a contributor to the May 22 issue of your paper referred to those groups as including "Christian Science and other types of faith healing." But to classify Christian Science with any form of so-called "faith healing" fails correctly to describe that Christian religion, and in fact seriously misrepresents it. I should therefore like to submit to your readers a brief statement setting forth the true basis of Christian Science healing.

Although the Christian Scientist necessarily places unbounded confidence in God as the healer of mankind, it is much more than mere faith that brings healing through Christian Science. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes on page 463, "There is a law of God applicable to healing, and it is a spiritual law instead of material." Now it is through correct understanding and application of that "law of God" that the Christian Scientist demonstrates healing even as did Christ Jesus, who utilized precisely the same law throughout his wondrous ministry of healing both sin and disease.

Thus it is seen that Christian Science, instead of being merely a form of faith healing, is actually the reinstatement of that early Christian healing which prevailed for some three centuries after the Master was on earth, in accordance with his own declaration that his followers should do the works which he himself accomplished.
