Christian Science came to me in a very dark hour

Christian Science came to me in a very dark hour. When I could no longer see a reason for existence and could see no way out, it gave me hope.

It is now of interest to me to look back and recognize the leading, guiding, and protecting power of Truth all the way. It seemed hard to work in the face of great opposition, and progress was slow, but Mrs. Eddy says in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 254), "Individuals are consistent who, watching and praying, can 'run, and not be weary; . . . walk, and not faint,' who gain good rapidly and hold their position, or attain slowly and yield not to discouragement." Being faithful to the little I knew, I was like the little child who was lost in a big city and who told her mother on her return, "I did not know where I lived but I knew God did, so I just took Him by the hand and He brought me home." Thus I saw God's hand in all things.

After losing all material possessions, with the exception of a few dollars, I went to Boston in 1909 and had class instruction. There was then no prospect of my returning for Association meetings, but knowing that "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals" (Science and Health, p. 13), and that man is constantly receptive and responsive to good, which can never decrease and needs no increase, the way opened for me to receive the blessings poured out in these meetings from year to year.
