The Healing

THERE came a day when on earth's thorny road
I wandered far, beset by fear and rue,
And wearied laid me down to rest and dream.
I dreamed I saw a beckoning mirage,
A peaceful land always beyond my reach.
And then I saw earth's troubled, stormy sea
Dash wildly on the rocky shore of time.
And as I stirred and prayed to understand,
I suddenly awoke–a radiant light
Celestial, such as never I had seen,
Shone round about me and, enthralled, I heard
A voice divine, full of compassion, say:
Be not afraid. Let not your heart be troubled.
I am the door, the Way, the Truth, the Life.
Arise, take up your cross and follow me.
My burden take upon you, it is light;
And easy is my yoke, for I am meek.
And thou shalt find rest for your weary soul,
For thou art whole!

And now I stood redeemed
Upon the royal way of Truth and Love–
And brightly shone the sun of hope and faith,
For I was healed! No earth weight I did bear.
Erect and free I walked, a song of joy
And gratitude and love within my heart.
