"The vital part"

IN studying the life of Christ Jesus, one is impressed with the great love manifested by him in his everyday living. The Scriptures are replete with accounts of healing brought about through his clear understanding of man as the perfect idea of God, and the love which refused to countenance the false evidence of the material senses, portraying man as sinning, sick, and dying.

Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 113), "The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love." The world today is sadly in need of love, and those of us to whom the truth about man has been revealed, have an important part to play in keeping our thought open to the healing currents of Truth, that we may help to meet world problems. This healing work can be accomplished only as we see man as spiritual, and refuse to accept the mortal concept of man which would constantly place before our gaze evidences of mortal discord.

Someone may say, How can I love my fellow man when I see him expressing so much error? We are all familiar with the beautiful example of humility and love which Jesus manifested when he washed the disciples' feet. The Bible record, according to John, would indicate that at the time this loving service was performed, Jesus knew that Judas would betray him, and that Peter would deny him. Yet, knowing this, Jesus washed their feet. Then he said to them, "If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet."
