Christian Science has meant everything to me for a number of years. It has given me a life of usefulness and activity in place of semi-invalidism. I was healed of a nervous breakdown through reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. This book and her other writings have been invaluable to me since then. I had not read far into the textbook before I was convinced that I had found the truth which Jesus said would make us free.
Having been reared in a so-called orthodox church and having tried to adhere to its teachings, though many of my questions were left unanswered, I was grateful to find that someone in this age had been able to reveal the spiritual meaning underlying the words of Scripture. Twice I had read the Bible through carefully, and had spent considerable time almost daily in studying it, always hoping for more light, but often finding what seemed like contradictions, so that it was with much joy that I found that the Christian Science textbook is a "key" to the Scriptures. I also read this book carefully through twice, asking God to show me the way.
As I had been brought up in a household full of fear, there was much fear in my thought, and through the years that have followed, the overcoming of this archenemy of mankind has been my constant endeavor. My first noticeable healing was of constipation, accomplished by one absent treatment from a practitioner whom I had not met. This clear proof of the power of Truth to destroy the ills of the flesh utterly annihilated my fear of this condition, for I saw the whole thing as just an illusion, which could not continue to deceive me when the truth was brought to bear upon it.
