Over five years have passed since I first heard of Christian Science
Over five years have passed since I first heard of Christian Science. At that time I was in a hopeless condition, and for a year had been suffering from the aftermath of grippe, which, in spite of constant medical treatment, would not yield. One day the doctor said that he would have to take an X ray, as he thought one of my lungs was affected; and later he told me that no time must be lost—I must go to a sanatorium. When I heard this, I was very much depressed and grew worse daily. Then one day I received an invitaion from a friend to attend a lecture on Christian Science. My husband had to take me in an automobile, for I had a high fever. The lecture brought me a great sense of peace, and the next day the fever had disappeared. Every week I went to see a practitioner and attended the church services; and from that time on I knew that this was the only way I could find help. After a very short time I was completely healed; I gained in weight and was normal again.
But then I had to undergo a severe test. A friend visited me, and after I had told her how I gained my healing, she began to ridicule Christian Science and tell me all kinds of stories about it. When she left, I felt very much perplexed, and I found that I did not understand very much of Christian Science, for in a few days my old trouble had returned in a worse form than before, accompanied by severe hemorrhages. I asked the practitioner for treatment, and in spite of appearances, I was soon better again. I began to understand that my own thoughts had brought back the old condition.
Since than more than two years have passed, and I have enjoyed the best of health. I thank our Father-Mother God that I have found Christian Science; I also thank Mrs. Eddy for the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and the services. I am deeply grateful to the practitioner for her great love and patience, and to the kind nurse for the service and love she gave me.—(Mrs.) Elise Staib, Tunnelstrasse, Pforzheim, Germany.
