When Christian Science came to me I had reached a stage at which I had given up all hope of a cure or even relief. I had had the opportunity to learn of Science before, but I was not interested. I had tried out patent medicines, exercises, change of climate, medical doctors, chiropractors, and osteopaths, until they told me they could do no more for me and that my time was short.

My trade was painting, and the trouble was said to be lead poisoning. This had caused a general derangement, and I had many ailments, including kidney, stomach, and bowel trouble, rheumatism, bad eyes, nervousness, catarrh and continual colds, weak lungs, and fallen arches; also a bad disposition and temper.

I began reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and in about two weeks I was surprised to find that I had lost all the major ailments along with the tobacco and liquor habits of over twenty years' standing. My teeth, which had been crumbling, were restored to their normal condition, and I have not lost one since that time, which was ten years ago. When I discarded arch supports, sometime later, I was on my feet over ten hours a day and felt no inconvenience therefrom. I have been losing more of the excess baggage along the way until I can truthfully say that I have to some degree "put off the old man" and "put on the new." For this I am most thankful to God; to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower; to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who made the Bible understandable; and also to my beloved wife, who prevailed upon me to read Science and Health.
