How to Progress

The sincere desire of the earnest student of Christian Science is for constant progression. He realizes that this progress must always be spiritual, and is brought about by growth away from beliefs of the carnal mind into the understanding and acceptance of spiritual facts. Since he has accepted the truth that the real spiritual man is created perfect, eternal, and forever harmonious, he knows that it is only the human sense that needs to change or progress.

In a study of the material sciences, so called, deep thought and persistent effort are required if one would advance rapidly. Strict obedience to the rules laid down is absolutely necessary if the student expects to accomplish satisfactory results. Likewise, in the Science of Christianity, only through loving obedience to the rules furnished by our Wayshower, Christ Jesus, and our wise Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, may we gain and retain a demonstrable understanding of the healing truth.

On page 495 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy has asked this question: "How can I progress most rapidly in the understanding of Christian Science?" In the answer which follows are five definite commands: "Study thoroughly the letter and imbibe the spirit. Adhere to the divine Principle of Christian Science and follow the behests of God, abiding steadfastly in wisdom, Truth, and Love."
