Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication

We have occasion for gratitude because of the number of newspapers in Montana which carry full reports of our lectures. Reports coming to this office indicate that these are being published quite regularly in newspapers in the following cities: Helena, Miles City, Lewistown, Deer Lodge, Thompson Falls, Forsyth, and Missoula. The full report of Mr. James G. Rowell's lecture, prepared in mat form by the Western Newspaper Union, was used by Miles City Star.

In towns where there is not a branch of The Mother Church we are permitted to offer editors what is known as a Monitor exchange subscription. Last year this offer was submitted to all eligible newspapers in the state. During the current year these subscriptions came up for renewal; twenty-one gladly availed themselves of the opportunity. In a number of instances the editors expressed their appreciation of the Monitor. Two of them in part were: "I give the Monitor second place to no daily in America," and, "We can hardly get along without it."

It is gratifying to record that in the year under review only one newspaper published correspondence prejudicial to Christian Science and Mrs. Eddy. Following a Christian Science lecture, a letter from a clergyman was published containing very derogative remarks about our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and the teachings of Christian Science, as well as individual Christian Scientists. A reply was forwarded by this Committee and was published in full.
