What Would Jesus Do?

Ofttimes the student of Christian Science is confronted with a problem which calls for immediate action—a decision which demands right thinking, since much of the student's progress and welfare depends upon the course that is adopted and once adopted faithfully followed.

One student has found it very helpful to ask the question, "What would Jesus do in this case, if he were upon the earth and confronted with a similar problem?" When this question is asked and the answer honestly sought in divine Mind, when the "still small voice" of Truth is earnestly listened for and meekly followed when heard, the necessary and right steps are taken without delay or confusion, for we have the promise of the Psalmist, "In the day when I cried thou answeredst me."

It is recorded that the Master often went aside to pray—to commune with his heavenly Father, to refresh and strengthen himself with spiritual food. On page 254 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we are told, "When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path." Jesus, our great Exemplar, said to his followers, "When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." The fulfillment of this promise is perpetual and is being realized daily by those who in sincerity "enter in," listen for and obey His voice without hesitancy, following even though with difficulty His directing in all their activities.
