Christian Science first interested me because of a healing...

Christian Science first interested me because of a healing which I witnessed in my own family. A severe and chronic case of indigestion, which had been under various forms of medical treatment for years, was completely healed, never to return again, after only two Christian Science treatments. This led me to attend a Christian Science church and to listen carefully to the testimonies given in the Wednesday evening meetings.

I often wondered if Christian Science would be effective, if I were to need help in a physical difficulty. After some time I had an attack of influenza, which came on suddenly and seemed to be very intense. I had to decide then whether or not I should have Christian Science treatment. I called a practitioner and asked for help which, of course, was quickly and lovingly given. In a few days I was back in my usual place of business.

The smoking habit was also healed at this time, although no help for it was asked. I can only explain this added healing in the following manner. At the time of the treatment given for influenza, I was very conscious of God's presence and power, and I made a mental resolution that in return for my tobacco. I would make a great effort to give up the use of tobacco. I had often tried to do this before, but had never succeeded in going without it for as much as a single day. I seemed to have almost no control over the habit. The healing was so complete that it was as if I had never smoked at all. I am very thankful for these proofs of God's care which came early in my experience with Christian Science. I have had many healings since then, not only of physical difficulties but of others also; faults of disposition have been corrected, business affairs have been more harmoniously conducted, and effects of accident have been overcome.
