As I have experienced so many blessings from Christian Science...
As I have experienced so many blessings from Christian Science I should like to express my gratitude in a testimony.
As a young married woman I suffered from swollen glands, which the doctors in Holland called Basedow's disease. I went to a hospital for eight months, but was not much better when I left, and it was more than ten years before I was healed. At the end of December, 1931, I noticed that my glands were swollen and that I had other symptoms similar to those which I had had when suffering from Basedow's disease. My husband asked me if I wanted to see a doctor, and I said, "No." Instead, I went to a Christian Science practitioner, because since taking up Science in 1919 we have relied on it for all our needs. With the first treatment the swelling stopped, but as the other conditions continued I was still under treatment. In the middle of February, 1932, my feet were very sore and hurt me so much that I stayed at home and in bed for part of each day. One day my body from the waist down began to swell. The condition grew much worse and the body became hard. I could not stoop nor bend my knees, and my husband had to help me with everything, even to taking me out of and putting me back in bed.
In this condition I contracted influenza, and when that was healed my bowels worked too frequently and I coughed badly and often lost my voice. There was also a diseased condition of the nose and throat. During this very trying period a loving and patient practitioner came daily to give treatment. Friends and relatives tried to force me to call a doctor, and said it was sheer madness not to have medical help. I am so deeply grateful that I myself had not the least desire to turn from Christian Science. It was also a very hard time for my husband; people condemned him, and called him irresponsible for not calling a doctor. I am very thankful that he never urged me to do what I did not want to do. Soon we were blessed for relying on God only, for by the middle of May I could walk to the little park very near our flat; and in June, with a heart full of gratitude, I could give my testimony that I was healed.
