I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing, but because I was very much in need of the Comforter which JEsus promised he would send. I had never been especially interested in any religion other than to have a sincere reverence for what I believed God to be. After reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I found that I had had an erroneous concept of God.

From my first introduction to Christian Science, I thought it a most beautiful religion, and was very receptive to its teaching, although it was many years before I earnestly took my stand for Truth. Since then, as I have continued in my daily study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, together with all of Mrs. Eddy's writings—as well as since reading the book "Mary Baker Eddy: A Life Size Portrait" by Rev. Lyman P. Powell—I have come to realize more fully why Christian Scientists should and do express unbounded gratitude for their Leader and her unselfish devotion to her lifework in giving to the world this marvelous truth which blesses all mankind.

I had never had any interest in reading the Bible. It was a closed book to me; in fact, I did not even own one; and had Christian Science done nothing else for me, I should always be indebted to this teaching for having revealed to me the joy and peace of mind to be obtained from study of this Book of books, together with the aid of the Christian Science textbook, which so beautifully unfolds its spiritual interpretation.
