Some years ago I was in the company of a number of people making a stay in Boston. I am very grateful for having had the opportunity of attending the services at The Mother Church at that time.
The disease called pink eye manifested itself among the members of the company, and was attended with very considerable annoyance and discomfort. The individual sufferers used the most highly recommended material remedies and from two to three weeks later found relief. Some of my friends, knowing of my interest in Christian Science, were inclined to ridicule and prophesied that I could not escape the infection and that I would see the futility of dependence on prayer for physical healing. One afternoon, the disease made its appearance in a virulent form. I retired to my room at the hotel and devoted myself to the knowing and declaring of the truth as I had learned to do in Christian Science.
The desire that the power and availability of divine Mind which is Love should be proved to my associates was dominant, and I went to sleep with peaceful assurance. The next morning there was no trace of the disease, nor did it ever return. My friend wondered, and those who had been derisive had the grace to acknowledge that prayer was effective, and more so than any other means in meeting this ailment.
