Even when I was a child spiritual things interested me and the Bible stories made a deep impression upon me. As a young man I gave a good deal of study to the Scriptures, as well as to everything else which might inform me, particularly because I was unable to understand how God could impart goodness, protection, love, and on the other hand send all sorts of evil and temptation. My studies brought about only great confusion of thought and finally, not finding any satisfactory explanation of the relation of God and man and the purpose of our existence, I abandoned my study, considering the Bible worth while only from a historical point of view. I plunged headlong into the general current of life and quickly became a drinker, a smoker, a coarse man.

Several years later various physical ills forced me to give up my work. Instead of being healed, my condition grew worse, and I suffered severely from nerve, heart, and stomach trouble. Several physicians treated me, and finally the last of them said that there was nothing more to be done. I was in great despair, for I was so weak that I could no longer read or write. Again I thought a good deal about God, certain that He could help me. Indeed, our loving Father had never ceased to care for me, for I heard of the marvelous healing of an acquaintance. I asked my mother to find out about it, and as a result I immediately got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner. This lady very kindly helped me. Three weeks later I was riding my bicycle; and my health very rapidly improved, so that all these ills disappeared.

Not only had I found healing, but also the true way to spiritual understanding. Filled with gratitude and a great desire to become better and to gain more spirituality in order to be able also, in some measure, to be of service to others, I began earnestly and sincerely to study the Bible, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and the other authorized Science literature. From then on a new way opened up to me. It would be impossible for me to enumerate here all the benefits I have received and the numerous irrefutable proofs of the presence of the healing Christ and of God's great love for His children. A great sorrow, accompanied by a sense of injustice and of separation from God, was soon overcome with the aid of a practitioner and the consequent physical troubles gradually disappeared.
