Closer to God

[Written Especially for Children]

JANE loved God and wanted to know more about Him. She had always liked to go to Sunday school, and very often would go on the street car all by herself rather than stay away. Very often she would think about God and wonder where He was. She had been told that He was up in the sky somewhere! Jane was not a Christian Scientist then.

One day a disturbing thought came to her. It was: But, how do I know there is a God? I cannot see Him.

Not very long after this, Jane's grandmother was healed by Christian Science, and when Jane visited her they read together the Lessons which are in the Christian Scicnce Quarterly. Sometimes when her grandmother was ironing, Jane would sit in one of the big kitchen chairs and read aloud from the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. As she read, a lovely thing happened. She began to feel closer to God than ever before. Science and Health says (p. 596), "Christian Science brings God much nearer to man, and makes Him better known as the All-in-all, forever near."
