Stand!

Because one woman was pure enough to receive divine inspiration, loving enough to share it, and faithful enough to stand by it against the ridicule, opposition, and hatred of the world, all mankind may now rejoice in the truths of Christian Science and receive of its blessings and rich rewards. Through her inspired work, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy brought her discovery, Christian Science, within the reach of everyone who would comprehend it.

Many grasp this beautiful truth readily. Some struggle for a time before making it their own, and others may for the moment fail to understand it at all. Sometimes a student of Christian Science who perhaps has experienced physical and moral healings through its power, may have to pray earnestly and frequently before a particular erroneous condition is overcome. It was during such a testing time that the following familiar Bible passage gave strength and encouragement to one student: "Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

When both practitioner and patient have applied all they understand of Christian Science, then comes the test to "stand"; in other words, to abide in the firm assurance that God's work is done, and even in the face of sense-evidence to the contrary maintain a positive attitude about it. Must not this have been the stand taken by the Shunammite, when her son died? Replying to the question, "Is it well with the child?" she replied, "It is well." What a beautiful example of faith and trust, and of standing for what she knew about the power of God, having done all that seemed to her humanly possible and wise!
