In appreciation of the years during which I have received...
In appreciation of the years during which I have received blessings through Christian Science, and in great gratitude for the many proofs I have had of the operation of God's law of good in times of sickness and distress, I send this testimony.
My first visit to a Christian Science practitioner was at a time when my face was swollen, disfigured, and very painful, due to an infection presumably caused by an ingrown hair. While I was talking with the practitioner at some length, she explained how Christian Science is applied, I immediately had great relief, and since then have never had a recurrence of this difficulty. For several years prior to this I periodically experienced these infections, which would compel me to be away from my work for a week or more.
About this time, which incidentally was after my first attendance at services in a Christian Science church, I attempted to take out a small life insurance policy, but after the customary examination I was told that my application could not be accepted because I had Bright's disease. This information did not cause me to be alarmed; in fact, I thought nothing more about it until three years later, when another agent of the same company wanted to sell me insurance. I related to him my previous experience and, knowing that I was entirely well, I applied for a policy even larger than before. The company physician put me through a lengthy examination, after which he said I was entirely healed, and the company issued the policy.
