Over eleven years ago I went into the office of a Christian Science...

Over eleven years ago I went into the office of a Christian Science practitioner. For twenty years I had suffered from ulcers of the stomach, pronounced incurable by many physicians. I also had other complaints for which I could find no relief, such as chronic constipation, fistulas, chronic sore throat, and eye trouble, which had caused me to give up all reading and which no glasses or medicine could correct. I came out of that office after one treatment healed of all those diseases. As I was leaving I said: "May I really eat like other people? Can I prove it?" Being assured that I could, I went at once to a restaurant and proved this healing with a thorough test. For my next step I threw out my medicines, and then I took the textbook by Mrs. Eddy, and "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur, and read them continually. What joy followed this reading, in healing myself and others!

I have experienced many quick healings since coming to Christian Science, but one was very slow. This was of a financial problem, covering a period of many years, and pertaining to our business, a corporation. The problem involved investors, bitter enmity, fear, greed, loss, and failure. It appeared an enormous and never ending struggle. Finally there came a climax, a time when the clouds of error closed in and it seemed that one near and dear to me, the victim of a long-brewed plot, would lose his freedom. It seemed as if we had nothing on our side—no money and no legal aid that could be relied upon. There was humanly no hope. But a practitioner was working and I was clinging to that remarkable statement of our Leader's, "The relations of God and man, divine Principle and idea, are indestructible in Science; and Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history" (Science and Health, pp. 470, 471). Then suddenly freedom came. It was considered unprecedented by those accustomed to courts and cases. "If God be for us, who can be against us?" At times, during the years with this problem, starvation seemed close at hand; but there were the dear practitioners, and there were the Christian Science Reading Rooms in various places. I do not forget, either, some outstanding instances of rare friendly acts, of help extended. All through this experience I never once wavered in my faith that this mountain of troubles could be removed by Christian Science. The financial healing is even now unfolding gradually. The sense of lack is diminishing and supply increasing. "The right way wins the right of way, even the way of Truth and Love whereby all our debts are paid, mankind blessed, and God glorified" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 232).

A word more, in gratitude to our dear Leader. Because of her discovery I am one of those healed and uplifted, and am of the vast army of Christian Scientists moving forward spiritually and dropping off the material beliefs, and revealing more and more the reflected qualities of the fatherhood and motherhood of God.—(Mrs.) Anne Kellogg McCann, Los Angeles, California.
