I have been brought up in Christian Science and have experienced many wonderful healings during my school days and since I have been married. During my high school days I was healed of double pneumonia in three days, missing only one day of school and later being able to pass my examinations creditably without preparation, proving that God is ever present and is the only Mind and intelligence.

As I had chosen the hotel field as my life-work there has been very little privacy for study. So many of the employees around me ridiculed and made fun of me because I professed to be a Christian Scientist that I finally kept my books hidden and never mentioned to anyone what my religious belief was, feeling that this was best. I finally decided that I could not hide my candle under a bushel, and whenever I was ridiculed I always returned a loving answer.

My real test in Christian Science came in 1932. My wife and I had always relied on Science for physical healing, but we had failed to apply it as a preventive, consequently we came very near losing our little girl. We were having treatment for a condition which we thought to be in her teeth, but the baby to mortal sense seemed to get worse. Several of our friends who were not Scientists threatened to call a doctor, thinking that we were neglecting our duty to our child. To silence mortal mind we called a doctor to diagnose the case, but no medicine was given. The doctor said that the trouble was with the child's stomach teeth. A few days passed and daily treatments were given, but our little girl seemed much worse; then we noticed a swelling around her ear. We had heard of mastoiditis, and our fears increased greatly. We called the practitioner to come and see the baby, and at the same time we called the doctor. The minute the doctor named the disease and advised an immediate operation to save the baby's life we took our stand and put our reliance in God, divine Mind, who heals all diseases. The practitioner went right to work, and in less than an hour the baby was sleeping peacefully for the first time in two weeks; and the discoloration and swelling around the ear went down. By the time a Science nurse arrived she was unable to tell which ear had been troubled. There was a discharge from the ear for a while, but as soon as our fears were overcome it stopped, and the baby was well. Two months later, when my wife gave birth to another child, so complete was the demonstration that the birth was practically painless.
