Right Decisions
[Written Especially for Young People]
Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 392), "Your decisions will master you, whichever direction they take." It is obvious, then, that right decisions or decisions on the side of right are essential if we are to make progress in our study of Christian Science.
Those young people who have had and who are having the blessed privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School have been taught the truth about God and man, but it remains for them to practice it. They are called on each day to make decisions, and if these decisions are for Principle they will be masters of themselves in the right direction. They will find that as they think and act in accordance with the teachings of Christian Science and decide for righteousness and against the false suggestions of the world, they will be led step by step to higher opportunities for service.
Some may be quite radical in watching and in making right decisions on the so-called larger problems, but apathetic in making decisions on minor issues. They may be ever so alert to practice honesty, loyalty, and fidelity in all their business and social relationships, but may allow mental suggestions to argue that in order to be popular they need to indulge false appetites, such as that for tobacco. This argument may be that they are the only ones among their associates who do not indulge in tobacco, and therefore they are made conspicuous by taking a stand against it. Error also may argue that many fine girls and boys indulge this habit. In Christian Science, however, as in mathematics, we must be exact in the application of the rules laid down, and the least divergence will affect the solving of our problems. Our Leader says in Science and Health (p. 462), "Whoever would demonstrate the healing of Christian Science must abide strictly by its rules, heed every statement, and advance from the rudiments laid down."
