Profound gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower,...
Profound gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to our beloved Leader, impels me to make use of the wise provision for giving testimonies, and to share some of my healings and experiences.
About twelve years ago I was forced, through the swelling of my ankles to three times their normal size, to consult a practitioner. Prior to this time I had attended the Christian Science services with a friend, who had told me of the great blessings that had come to her and to her mother by the faithful study of this religion. With the complete healing of this ailment, which took place within a fortnight, I rejoiced that I had found this truth.
Our Leader says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 82), "A mythical or mortal sense of existence is consumed as a moth, in the treacherous glare of its own flame—the errors which devour it." In a measure, this was proved to me in the following years. By experiencing suffering from other difficulties, including the loss of both my speaking and my singing voice, nervousness, lack of supply, and severe swelling of my right arm caused by blood poisoning, I was again forced to turn to God. Through the consecrated efforts of a devoted practitioner, the loving-kindness of a librarian in a Christian Science Reading Room, and friends, I was guided and taught the necessity of the daily study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, and the Manual of The Mother Church, together with the use of the Concordances to all of our Leader's writings. As a result of the above study and the healings that followed, the desire for liquor and tobacco left me, thereby bringing greater purity into my thinking.
