The question is asked whether a Christian Science Reading Room should take listings of rooms, houses, apartments, and positions, and so carry on, in a degree, a rental and employment bureau in connection with the regular Reading Room work. Some Christian Science churches have solved this problem by keeping in their Reading Rooms a file of The Christian Science Monitor advertisers, usually maintained by the local Monitor Advertising Information Committee. The information is in such form that advertisements such as for positions, rooms, etc., can readily be referred to. The advertisements in this list are kept there for a limited period. Each Reading Room of The Mother Church in Boston has such a file maintained by the local Monitor Advertising Information Committee.

Naturally, librarians in Reading Rooms wish to be helpful to visiting Christian Scientists who would like to obtain rooms for a few days; but the work of keeping private listings might grow into a considerable volume, and might entail responsibilities which are not a part of the Reading Room work. Of course, the boards of branch churches will determine what, if anything of this nature, will be done in their respective Reading Rooms, and whether the maintenance of files of advertisements taken from the Monitor, will assist in meeting the demand. There is no question but that reference to advertisements in the Monitor, and patronage given them, is a help to the Monitor itself.

Early in the spring of 1934 the Christian Science churches of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, established a joint committee called the "Joint Centennial Committee of the Christian Science Churches of Toronto." It was composed of two representatives from each of the six churches, and its deliberations led to investigating the possibility of having a display of The Christian Science Monitor at the Canadian National Exhibition, to be held from August 24 to September 8, inclusive. Finally permission was obtained from the management of the Exhibition to exhibit the Monitor as proposed, and, with the coöperation of The Christian Science Publishing Society, a booth about twenty-four feet by fourteen feet was obtained in the General Exhibits Building.
