To say that I am grateful for Christian Science would...
To say that I am grateful for Christian Science would hardly express my real feelings. My earliest glimpse of the peace and happiness which its teaching brings to each seeker was gained at my first Christian Science service in the original Mother Church.
I have had many opportunities to prove for myself and others that Christian Science heals. One of the many healings was that of a very distressing throat trouble, known as acute bronchitis, which I had since a child. It was many years after I came into Science before the fear of its return was overcome. I would say to all pilgrims, When the way seems long and discouragement, fear, and distress seem real and present, trust God and press on, for victory is on God's side.
About two weeks before I was to fill the position of Second Reader in a branch church, I was suddenly afflicted with a peculiar eye trouble, one which glasses would not relieve. By faithfully and persistently affirming that sight is spiritual, a quality of Mind, I was healed. Another experience for which I am deeply grateful occurred while filling this position. Shortly before time for the evening service one Sunday, when I was crossing the room quickly, my ankle turned and threw me heavily to the floor, on my face. Error suggested that my nose was broken and my ankle badly sprained. I held steadfastly to "the scientific statement of being," as given us by Mrs. Eddy on page 468 of the Christian Science textbook, and was able to be at my post, although not without some discomfort. A day or two later this thought was whispered to me, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing;" and I was healed. So we find that as we earnestly press on, all obstacles will be made stepping-stones to a higher understanding of God's law and its operation in human affairs.
