Christian Science has been known to me practically all...
Christian Science has been known to me practically all my life, as my mother became interested in it when I was four years old; and since that time I have never had any other physician. Naturally, my children's only medicine has been divine Mind. We are told in Science and Health (p. 142), "God being All-in-all, He made medicine; but that medicine was Mind." We have all had many wonderful healings. At one time one of my boys had a large swelling—which was said to be a carbuncle—on the front of his neck, and it was very painful. After two treatments by a practitioner all sense of pain was overcome, and the next day the swelling went down and soon it disappeared.
Some time ago I came home from work and found my eldest boy in bed, suffering from a badly sprained ankle. It was swollen to twice the usual size. I immediately began to declare the truth, but visitors soon came in and I was unable to do any further work until bedtime. I then opened our textbook to page 410 and read several pages, after which I began to apply my understanding of the allness of God and the consequent nothingness of error; also, the perfection of man made in God's image and likeness. I was inclined to call a practitioner, but I did not, as I felt sure that my understanding was sufficient and that I should endeavor to meet the enemy myself before I asked for help. I was amply repaid for my efforts, as in a very short time the pain was overcome and the child spent a restful night. There was still some fear manifested that the pain would return if the ankle was used; but this, too, was overcome in a few days, and the swelling entirely disappeared within a week. This helped me to understand that we must demonstrate what we know, in order to progress in Christian Science. For this experience and many other healings I am very thankful; also for the wonderful protection of divine Love, which has cared for me and mine in so many ways.
The spiritual joy and peace which this great truth gives, when we rely on it implicitly, are beyond my power to express. In this day of seeming turmoil and confusion, with its ever changing material values, it is comforting, indeed, to have this firm foundation of ever present, all-powerful, unchanging divine Love, on which we can with confidence rely. I am grateful to God for giving us the light of Truth through Christ Jesus, and to our Leader for our textbook, which indeed unlocks the treasures of the Bible so that we may all understand its beautiful teachings. My earnest desire is to help spread this saving truth, so that others may share in its wonderful blessings.
