Ultimate Harmony

One of the most glorious of divine facts is that true being—God and His creation—is absolutely perfect, absolutely harmonious. Christian Science teaches that God is All-in-all, infinite and perfect Mind, Spirit, Soul, Life; and from this it draws the unassailable conclusion that His manifestation, His universe including individual man, is spiritual, perfect, harmonious. Some may point out that such a conclusion is not in keeping with human experience, where imperfection and inharmony are inseparable from materiality; but Christian Science replies that if the spiritual truths it declares are put to the test, proportionately to one's understanding of them, the result will be a demonstration of harmony.

The fact then is that, in spite of all that material sense may say to the contrary, real being is harmonious and perfect. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 390 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "We cannot deny that Life is self-sustained, and we should never deny the everlasting harmony of Soul, simply because, to the mortal senses, there is seeming discord." Our Leader did a very great thing when, in the light of the allness of God, Spirit, she announced to the world the unreal nature of material sense; for in maintaining that the imperfection and inharmony to which material sense appears to testify is altogether erroneous, she was contradicting a universal belief of mankind.

Gradually but surely the Christian Science position is being accepted by men and women throughout the world. More and more is God being acknowledged by them as infinite, supreme; more and more is He being understood as perfectly harmonious Mind or Spirit. And with this understanding, the unreal nature of matter and evil is being conceded. The task before Christian Scientists is to bring the truths of Christian Science before their fellow men, not in an aggressive manner but lovingly, even as those in possession of that which they are assured can bring unlimited joy and happiness into the lives of all earnest seekers for Truth.
