I should like to express my gratitude to Christian Science...
I should like to express my gratitude to Christian Science for a wonderful healing which I have experienced.
My eyes had always been a source of trouble to me, for from birth I had been afflicted with a very bad squint. After being at a boarding school for two years I came home for the Christmas holidays. My reports showed that I was very backward with my reading. I had not been home very long before I was told to see an oculist, who advised me to wear spectacles, and when my parents inquired how long I should have to wear them they were told five years; but the oculist added that he was practically sure I should have to wear them for the rest of my life.
Then I came into Christian Science. I was taken away from boarding school and sent to a day school. I studied the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly every day, after which I read a passage from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. After my mother was informed by the principal of the school about my eyes and my poor reading, she went to a Christian Science practitioner, who began work immediately. Through doing my work as best I knew how I learned that God, good, is "a very present help in trouble." One evening, after placing my glasses on the dressing table, I suddenly turned around and knocked them off. Instead of picking them up the thought came to me to look into the mirror, and on doing so I found my eyes were healed.
