The wonderful teachings of Christian Science came into...
The wonderful teachings of Christian Science came into my life when, like many others, I had reached a position which seemed void of any help or change. Sick at heart and discouraged by the failure of a seemingly prosperous and lucrative business, I was at a loss to know which way to turn until in my desperation I sought the advice of a loved one who was studying this wonderful religion.
A copy of the Christian Science textbook was given me and I immediately started to study it. Only those who have had this experience can fully appreciate what followed. As our beloved Leader writes on page 27 of "Retrospection and Introspection": "As sweet music ripples in one's first thoughts of it like the brooklet in its meandering midst pebbles and rocks, before the mind can duly express it to the ear,—so the harmony of divine Science first broke upon mysense." Experience followed experience, and about six months after I started the study of Christian Science the demonstration over the business inactivity was made. A few months later the glasses which I had worn for many years were laid aside; then came the demonstration over the use of tobacco; and physical ailments such as chronic stomach trouble, pneumonia, and chronic appendicitis were quickly and wholly healed, for all of which I am deeply grateful.
I was to find, though, that greater demonstrations would be accomplished with a more thorough understanding. In Science and Health (p. 147) we read: "Although this volume contains the complete Science of Mind-healing, never believe that you can absorb the whole meaning of the Science by a simple perusal of this book. The book needs to be studied." Through this study the understanding of God and His infinite creation has unfolded. Membership in The Mother Church and one of its branches, and class instruction are only a few of the many blessings which have come to me through following the teachings of our beloved Leader. My testimony of gratitude, however, would be most incomplete if I failed to express my sincere thanks for the Board of Directors of The Mother Church and their activities which have found expression in the building of the new Publishing House and the publication of our new Hymnal.
