Give!
It is cause for deep gratitude that at the present time there is world-wide response to the appeal for generous giving. This answer to the call for whole-hearted sharing of human necessities is so much in evidence that there may be seen in it a sign of mankind's awakening to the divine command, "Love thy neighbour as thyself." There are many at this time who would like to give generously but who believe that they have not the means wherewith to do so. Can it be that God, infinite Love, denies them this opportunity because of their having, apparently, nothing to give? Quite the contrary! The honest desire to help another is never denied God's aid.
Christian Science teaches us how we can give freely at all times of our understanding of unlimited divine substance. On page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says: "Spirit, the synonym of Mind, Soul, or God, is the only real substance. The spiritual universe, including individual man, is a compound idea, reflecting the divine substance of Spirit." God, Spirit, divine Love, imparts to man all good, in the complete and perfect consciousness of true, harmonious being. This impartation is not material, limited, or fluctuating, but spiritual, infinite, and constant. When we are conscious of Godlike thoughts, we are reflecting substance. The individual who is reflecting in thought the perfection of God and His creation is giving to mankind the highest possible good.
Christ Jesus was not rich as the world measures riches. But his spiritual giving brought to earth the kingdom of heaven itself, the greatest gift ever bestowed upon men. To those, then, who are sharing constantly their realization of Truth and Love in their daily relationships, the following statement is significant (Science and Health, p. 325): "Jesus gave the true idea of being, which results in infinite blessings to mortals." The fruitfulness of this spiritual giving is illustrated in the third chapter of Acts, wherein it is related that a lame man asked an alms of Peter and John: "Then Petersaid, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength." Does not this incident show the uplifting activity of omnipotent Truth? Does it not point to the liberating power of spiritual ideas over the limiting beliefs of mortal mind? How impossible, from a human standpoint, to have given anything more than an alms, and yet how generous was this spiritual giving! Since divine Love is the infinite source of good, were not the fruits of this giving natural?
