Your issue of January 12 contains an article, under the heading "Spiritualism," in which the writer goes far astray from his subject to charge Christian Science with being a "blasphemous parody" on the Christian religion. Considering the possibility of some of your readers' being misled by this charge against Christian Science, I respectfully request that you publish this letter in an early issue of the Forum, and in as prominent a position as was given to the above-mentioned article.

The statement that Christian Science is "blasphemous" or a "parody" on the Christian religion is as unwarranted as it is untrue. This can be proved by anyone who will study with an open mind the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and compare Mrs. Eddy's teaching with the teaching of the master Christian, Jesus the Christ. An honest investigation will show that they are one and the same; that Mrs. Eddy did not invent a new religion, but that she discovered the Science of Christianity which Jesus taught and demonstrated, with unmistakable and irrefutable signs. He taught a religion of love; of peace on earth, good will toward men, and admonished his disciples, "Judge not, that ye be not judged." Furthermore, he taught them to prove their faith by their works, and sent them forth, commanding them to "heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils." He said to them, "Freely ye have received, freely give." Mark records him as saying, "These signs shall follow them that believe."

Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 26): "Our Master taught no mere theory, doctrine, or belief. It was the divine Principle of all real being which he taught and practised." Christian Scientists have no religious creed, but lovingly subscribe, among others, to the two following religious Tenets (Science and Health, p. 497): "1. As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life. ... 6. And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure."
