Christian Soldiers
[Written Especially for Children]
Many children enjoy singing "Onward, Christian Soldiers." Did you ever realize that each one in the Christian Science Sunday School is a Christian soldier? You enlist in this big army the first day you enroll in Sunday school. There you find many other young soldiers who are being trained to use the truth. You are finding that the only enemy you have to meet is the wrong thoughts which come to you, and the only battle ground is, thus, not on the playground, in the street or the home, but right within your own thinking. The truth is your only weapon, and through obedience you depend upon it for your safety. You are taught that God is Love and that love is the only power that acts and wins. You are also taught that God works through man, and man can do nothing but what God does.
If you let error creep into your thinking and stay there, more of its kind will try to follow and seek to make you very unhappy indeed. As a good Christian Science soldier, however, you can at once say "No"! to unhappy thoughts. You are always happy to see Truth work when you put right thoughts in the place of a lie that is trying to make you think it is real. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 559 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Then is the power of Truth demonstrated,—made manifest in the destruction of error." You love to tell your friends about the power of Truth and how it wins battles for you and keeps you well. You become a braver and stronger soldier the more you use this truth and see it win. The Christian Scientist who is always hearing God's thoughts has on an armor, and wrong thoughts cannot possibly get in, for there is no room for them in his thinking.
In school you learn the truth about numbers; and if you see "Two and two is six" written on a blackboard, and you are alert, you quickly erase the "six" and put "four" in its place, to make the correction. You destroy the lie or error with the fact which you have learned. As soldiers in the Christian Science Sunday School, you erase or destroy wrong thoughts in your thinking by putting true thoughts, or God's thoughts, in their place.
