The healing activity of the Christian Scientist has nothing...

Kirchliches Gemeindeblatt für die evangelisch-lutherischen Gemeinden

The healing activity of the Christian Scientist has nothing to do with suggestion, but it is an affirmative prayer of thanks to God. When Jesus raised Lazarus he said: "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always." Jesus knew that his Father would answer his prayer, for he knew his Father's will, namely, that He has not made man, His image and likeness, to suffer, sin, and die.

The Christian Scientist's faith in God rests upon the revelation which Jesus gave his disciples, by his deeds and his teaching, which found expression in the Sermon on the Mount, culminating in his words, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Christ Jesus' teaching is the greatest demand that has ever been made on mankind, and to follow this demand is the Christian Scientist's endeavor.
